"Arkansas, whose unemployment rate remains more than two percentage points below the national average, has avoided sharp budget cuts while neighboring states have slashed hundreds of millions of dollars from their budgets. ... Gov. Mike Beebe has noted that Arkansas has made up for a lot of its job losses, sometimes with better jobs. Many of those jobs are in the energy industry, including natural gas drillers in the Fayetteville Shale play, wind energy companies that picked Arkansas for new plants and the Southwest Power Pool Inc., which kept its headquarters in Little Rock and says it will add 200 jobs to its high-end payroll. Also, the state has picked up some high-tech jobs, such as the hundreds hired by Hewlett-Packard Co. in Conway at its new technical service center. Despite the bright spots, Beebe said it was "too early" to declare that Arkansas has turned the corner."

The Mike Beebe for Governor campaign filed its monthly financial report with the Secretary of State’s Office today for the month of January. The report reflects a total amount raised of $1,019,687.00. The campaign carry-over account ended 2009 with $3,617.02 remaining.

Mike Beebe said today he is seeking a second term as Governor to complete the work begun during his first term in the state’s top office. In an online message to supporters, Beebe said he is in the early stages of organizing a campaign.

Four years ago, I asked you to "Believe in Arkansas." As I prepare to run for a second term as Governor, I'm asking you to continue believing in the bright potential of our shared future.
While I plan to kick-off my campaign, officially, in the coming months, for now, we must begin organizing for the task ahead. When I was sworn into office three years ago, I asked for your help and support. As far as we've come since then, there is still much more to be done. We've made progress because we've worked together.
